Silent Feature Era is the musical projections of Greg Cathcart and Adrian Mauro but also involves a rotating community of musicians.

The sound was born out of a fascination with film, and a desire to create scores capable of conjuring rich imagery, much the way a silent film may be stronger for its absence of sound.

Grounded very much in the process of collaboration, Silent Feature Era has grown over three and a half years of experimentation - blending a myriad of influences through their exploratory take on production.

Having produced, engineered and performed on countless independant projects in their Brisbane studio "The Ark", it was only a matter of time before Cathcart and Mauro bunkered down and made sound of all they imagined of the great, vivid world. Bush Noir style odes to promise and deceit amid a boozy kaleidoscope of mariachi horns, sine wave synthesizers and crooked, cooked guitars – the shrill, righteous damnation of a fiddle and the half-arsed redemption of an asthmatic harmonium, these were singularly unique reckonings of song.

Luke Sullivan, Andrew Doonican and Beck Flatt join Cathcart and Mauro in their live performances, which also feature on occasion the appearances from horn or string sections involved in the making of the record. This community of musicians centered around “The Ark” result in the group having a creative affinity which lends itself to spontaneous, somewhat chaotic, yet seamless cinematic scores and song writing.

While main songwriter Cathcart’s creative disposition fits neatly inside the belly of the 1957 Gibson that he keeps beside his bed, Mauro’s approach is governed by his candid curiosity and love for sound – born of any means…kitchen knives, train stations, church organs. In a ‘matter meets anti-matter’ kind of way, their creative differences ignite a most favorable arrangement of lyrical musings, both gentle and bold.

Their acclaimed debut album - This Old Leather Heart, sees Silent Feature Era producing a cinematic journey for gluttonous aural consumption, which paradoxically was very much their objective.
